Do I need to service my car?
In short, yes. Nearly all cars on the road need servicing of some sort. Each vehicle will have different service intervals requiring different items at different points. The other reason to service your vehicle is to protect its future value. A vehicle with a fully maintained service record is always going to be more desirable and valuable than a vehicle with no record. Does not matter if you don’t have a service book. I have only done a few miles since the last one, do I still need it doing?
Yes, it really does. Some items can be skipped. For example, a spark plug or air filter will hardly degrade over time. They wear as the vehicle is driven, whereas engine oil will degrade over time. Even when the vehicle is just parked up, the oil will lose its performance and no longer function as it should. It’s a very simple thought process: oil is cheaper than an engine. You might skip a year, which saves you £175, but it will hurt your vehicle’s value and put the most expensive part—the engine—at risk of damage or reduced performance. Skipping a service is a false economy.
