Frequently Asked Questions

Here's some answers to the most frequently asked questions by our customers

Do I need to service my car?

In short, yes. Nearly all cars on the road need servicing of some sort. Each vehicle will have different service intervals requiring different items at different points. The other reason to service your vehicle is to protect its future value. A vehicle with a fully maintained service record is always going to be more desirable and valuable than a vehicle with no record. Does not matter if you don’t have a service book. Just keep the invoicing and that is all the evidence you need. If you want to know what service your car is due for and how much it would be, please get in contact with our lovely service team.

How much is a service?

This really does vary from vehicle to vehicle. Some cars may cost as little as £150, while others can run into the thousands. It depends on parts pricing, the type of vehicle, and the time required to complete the service. If you would like to know how much your next service will cost, please get in contact with our friendly service team, who will be more than happy to assist.

I have only done a few miles since the last one, do I still need it doing?

Yes, it really does. Some items can be skipped. For example, a spark plug or air filter will hardly degrade over time. They wear as the vehicle is driven, whereas engine oil will degrade over time. Even when the vehicle is just parked up, the oil will lose its performance and no longer function as it should. It’s a very simple thought process: oil is cheaper than an engine. You might skip a year, which saves you £175, but it will hurt your vehicle’s value and put the most expensive part—the engine—at risk of damage or reduced performance. Skipping a service is a false economy.

How do I know what service I need?

Each vehicle will vary. Some vehicles require servicing every year, whereas others may have different intervals. At Fresh Motors, we recommend a service each year, alternating between a minor and a major service. If you would like more information on what is included in each service, you can find this on our servicing page. If you need assistance with what is required, please get in contact with our friendly service team, who will be more than happy to help.

Can I miss bits of the service off?

You can, although we don’t recommend it. Chances are you want a reliable vehicle and don’t want to second-guess its performance. You also want it running at its best. Servicing and maintaining your vehicle will help make this happen. You won’t achieve the best fuel economy or maximum power if you skip basic serviceable items. The vehicle manufacturer knows the vehicle best, as they designed it, so we believe it’s worth following their recommended schedule.

Do electric vehicles need servicing?

The majority of them do. Many people think they don’t, but they actually do. At Fresh Motors, we offer servicing for EV vehicles, and we've also put together a helpful article about EV servicing which you can read here
