These codes can then be interpreted to better understand a picture of what is going on and suggest the required repair, sometimes we might need to do further investigative work such as consulting wiring diagrams, tracing wires or testing modules to find the route of the problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here's some answers to the most frequently asked questions by our customers

How does diagnostics work?

Any vehicle diagnostic is a journey. Some journeys are simple and short, while others can be long and complicated. With any warning light or vehicle concern, we always recommend starting with an hour-long diagnostic. If the issue is simple, we only ever charge for the time taken. Once the hour is up, we aim to report back with the next steps. If we’re still unsure after the hour, we’ll contact you to ask how you would like to proceed. We do this so you don’t rack up a larger bill. Once we know what is wrong with the vehicle, we will provide a quote for the required work, and you can decide how you want to proceed.

How much would I pay for diagnostics?

Our initial diagnostic takes 1 hour of labour. This includes the cost of using the diagnostic equipment. As vehicles get newer, the equipment becomes more complex and sophisticated in order to work with the vehicle’s systems.

How long does it take?

Initially, we start with 1 hour. Sometimes the issue is very simple, and we can have an answer in as little as 15 minutes, but in most cases, the full hour is needed. During that time, we perform as many checks as possible to ensure our diagnosis is as accurate as we can make it.

What systems do you use for the car?

We use multiple systems to diagnose vehicles, as each manufacturer responds differently to various diagnostic tools. At Fresh Motors, we use Snap-on, Topdon, Autel, Bosch KTS, and Osca. All of these systems are very expensive to purchase and require regular updates, but we are proud of the capabilities we have in the workshop. There are very few faults we cannot get to the bottom of.

Can you diagnose all makes and models?

Nearly all vehicles can be diagnosed with our systems. The only ones we sometimes struggle to communicate with are newer brands, such as Tesla and BYD. Overall, we work with a wide range of makes and models. If you need help with a specific vehicle, please get in touch with our friendly service team, who will be more than happy to assist.
